MEET TODAY’S GUEST

Kevin O'Neill

That’s where Kevin O’Neill and his team at Square One Medical comes in. Entering their 30th year in business, Square One is both a leading CPR training provider and a master distributor of Zoll AED devices across Western Pennsylvania—including right here in Cranberry Township and the North Hills.

“AEDs are easy to use and no one should be intimidated on using one—with voice prompts and layperson-friendly instructions.”

THE INTERVIEW

A Mission to Save Lives

The core of Square One Medical is simple: prepare people to act confidently in a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) emergency. Every year, more than 1,000 people per day become victims of SCA in the U.S., and it strikes without warning—regardless of age, fitness level, or health history.

“Every 3 days in the US, an 18-year-old athlete is a victim of SCA,” the team shared. That sobering statistic is exactly why Square One emphasizes CPR training combined with AED readiness. When SCA strikes, victims have approximately 10 minutes to be saved, and survival odds drop by about 10% for every minute without intervention.

Square One’s classes teach the basics of CPR, First Aid, and AED use in an upbeat, hands-on format that’s never boring. They serve everyone from safety professionals and workplace teams to babysitters, daycares, parents, grandparents, and community groups—with special attention to pediatric emergencies and choking response.

Training + Equipment = Real Impact

Beyond classes, Square One has placed thousands of Zoll AEDs in businesses, schools, churches, office buildings, police departments, and other locations throughout Western PA. Ten years ago, many people didn’t even know what an AED was. Today, thanks to ongoing education, social media, and high-profile saves (like Damar Hamlin’s nationally televised incident), awareness has grown dramatically.

The team at Square One is proud to have been part of that shift. “With ongoing education, social media, and SAVES in the news on a regular basis, the knowledge of their importance is now obvious,” they said. “AEDs are easy to use and no one should be intimidated on using one—with voice prompts and layperson-friendly instructions.”
